Nothing says elegance and sophistication like a good coat rack. Let’s face it, the days of piling our coats into the corner are over! We’ve all grown up a little bit, I think. But picking the right coat rack says a lot about who you are. That’s why I love antique coat racks because of their timelessness and beauty.
On this page I’m going to talk a little bit about prices and I’m also going to spend a lot of time talking about where you can find a good antique coat rack. Because of course, department stores sell coat racks that look like antique racks… and you can find good deals, but if you’re like me, you want the real thing; so I’ll be discussing both options for you today.
Department store or the real deal? The first question you have to ask yourself is do you want a real antique coat rack, or do you just want something from a department store that looks like an antique coat rack? If you don’t care, then go with the department store because you can get a really nice coat rack and it will look beautiful and it will last long enough, and the price can’t be beat. Department store coat racks can run anywhere from $79 all the way up to $300 or more depending on the size and the material and the attention to detail.
The name of the game here is personal preference. You absolutely must choose an antique coat rack because of the way it looks and the way it makes you feel. If you don’t fall in love with it immediately, keep looking for something else because day in and day out your coat rack will be a focal point to your home entrance way and you want to be happy with it!
Where to find them? There are many different places to find antique coat racks, and your regular department stores may not be the best place to look. You’re going to want to hit all of your antique shops first. When you’ve exhausted that list, consider checking out estate sales in your area. Especially if you live in a major city or near a major city, you can often find estate sales that have just a treasure trove’s full of great things including antique coat racks!
If you don’t live near a major city, consider going to yard sales. I’ve had less luck finding things like antique coat racks at yard sales, but it does happen and when it does you can often find incredibly good deals because people don’t really realize usually what they have and are just anxious to get rid of it! Another place to check for them that most people don’t ever think of is eBay! I have found some incredibly good deals there over the years and even today with eBay seemingly winding down in popularity, you can still find awesome antique coat racks and get pretty good deals too.
Antique Coat Racks are a great addition to any home. These things are steeped in tradition, they’re not just a place to hang your coat and they also make great heirlooms to hand down to the younger generation of your family because of one thing is for sure, we’ll always need a place to hang our coats!
